Why Pearlescent?

As being a counsellor and part of individuals healing journeys is an integral part of both my life and identity, choosing a name was a task that carried a lot of weight. Pearlescent was created in collaboration with my loved ones, as a way to both pay tribute to my middle name, while also signifying how I view the individuals that I support.

By definition, Pearlescent derives from mother-of-pearls, which consist of materials that both reflect and absorb light. As a humanistic and strengths-based counsellor, meaning that my work is centred around seeing the inherent goodness of all the individuals that I work with, this definition paired perfectly with my perspective of the folks I support. Throughout my work, I work with individuals to recognize the light they spread as well as their capacity to take in light from their surroundings throughout their healing journeys. Pearls themselves, and the way they are created, symbolize strength, resilience and patience. Creating them is not a short process, yet the end product is admirable. Covered by a hard shell, pearls emerge as a valuable reminder of what is possible. We as a society often refer to pearls of wisdom — wise and precious bits of knowledge. Throughout the counselling process, I work with individuals to reflect of their life, knowledge, narratives and subconscious to identify, deconstruct and reconstruct these pearls in order to guide them towards the life they dream of living.

Beyond those explanations, Pearlescent counselling has the ability to mean whatever you need it to mean and be what you need it to be for your process. Together, we can co-create a vision of what this space means for you and an action plan for how to make your life Pearlescent.
