Jasmine Malcolm (she/her)

I am a counsellor, educator, business owner, advocate, learner and lover.

I am queer, cisgender and biracial; which are all identities that shape my approaches, perspectives and prioritization of creating safe spaces in the mental health care sector which has both historically and presently caused significant harm towards various communities.

My role involves supporting individuals to recognize their capacity, foster hope and develop new strategies to approach barriers. As your counsellor, I will be in your corner to hear your story, provide encouragement and new perspectives, and help get you closer to living your desired life as your true self.

My areas of specialty include:

  • Working with 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC populations

  • Youth and young adults

  • Youth in government care

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Religious and/or racial trauma

  • Self compassion and self worth

  • Life transitions

  • Oppressive systems and systemic/colonial violence

  • Relationships

Therapeutic Approach

As a queer and biracial settler, my approaches focus on creating a space where individuals feel safe(r), affirmed and welcomed. In order to do so, the forefront of my practice includes liberation-oriented, person-centred, strengths-based, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive techniques. I recognize the harm that many have faced within therapeutic settings, and I am committed to creating spaces that provide everyone with an opportunity to safely actualize their potential and foster wellbeing.  Some of the core modalities that I draw from include Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and several others that meet the needs of the individuals I support.

I bring myself to all sessions, which includes my energy, optimism, humour, mistakes and all! I also invite my clients to bring their authentic selves in whatever capacity that may be, and know that you will be welcome. Therapy looks different for everyone, and whether this is your first or tenth time giving it a try, I hope the space we create together can be one that works for you.
